Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town Interview

As the Destinations Expo 2010 in Cape Town has closed its doors on Sunday, 22nd August 2010, and as a response to various requests and comments from interested players in the Tourism Industry all across South Africa, we did an Interview with Dumi Sakuinje who attended this relatively new Travel & Holiday Expo in his capacity as the General Manager of MonkeyValley Resort, Noordhoek, South Africa – and who kindly and spontaneously agreed to give us some valuable feedback.

Dumi Sakuinje Interview by Bianca Gubalke, Noordhoek, South Africa

Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town Interview with Dumi Sakuinje

In our brief yet informative Interview on the value, the results and merits of the “Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town” , Dumi Sakuinje – who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in African Tourism all across the African continent -, comes to some conclusions that are of interest to anyone who wants to expand their South African Travel and Tourism Business, especially in view of the third Destinations Expo 2011 planned for next year.

Dumi Sakuinje on the Internet

Dumi Sakuinje is very positive and enthusiastic about the massive potential for Travel & Tourism in South Africa – and Africa a s a whole – however, given the fact that most bookings are being made online today, this can only happen with a strong presence and a good reputation on the Internet… meaning high visibility on search engines, like Google, as well as Social Networks, genre Facebook. Accordingly, this is where a major marketing effort and the relating investment has to be concentrated until the goal is reached. It’s the exact route Monkey Valley Resort follows – of course, on Semiomantics Evolution.

Faster Internet lines would help; this 5 minutes 33 seconds Interview took over 6 hours to load – but it’s worth watching – enjoy!

Sunset at Monkey Valley Resort Noordhoek

Spring is here and with it, the sun will slowly travel back from its current position behind Chapman’s Peak until we see it setting in the Atlantic Ocean right from our doorsteps here in Noordhoek – just as you can admire a golden sunset at Monkey Valley Resort Noorhoek, right from the deck of the “Crowned Eagle”.

Visitors have left testimonials calling it “Paradise”.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

Chapman’s Peak Drive near Cape Town, South Africa – connecting Hout Bay with Noordhoek – has often been called one of the “… most spectacular coastal roads in the world”.

Chapman's Peak Drive by David Turnley

The above picture shows Chapman’s Peak Drive to the right sneaking along the mountains towards Hout Bay in the background on a wild, stormy winter’s day…

Chapman’s Peak Drive

It was indeed a wild stormy winter’s day when I drove to my Yoga Workshop with Shimon Ben Avi on Sunday morning … all along Chapman’s Peak Drive. The pass was closed for a couple of years after a tragic accident and has since been beautifully restored. It is now a toll road – R30 (3 Euros) per trip in any direction… that’s for about 10 km of stunning vistas anywhere you look. Many people come here just to watch the sunset with a glass of champagne. . .

One does still take a risk on extremely stormy, rainy days… as who can tame Nature in such a grandeur? And this despite all the enormous road, bridge and rock retaining work that has been done with Swiss expertise.

But I can guarantee many moments that take your breath away as you inhale the beauty and majesty of Chapman’s Peak Drive…  never mind the weather.

Yoga Workshop

These incredible views across majestic mountain ranges and the endless Atlantic Ocean always make me feel humble and privileged at the same time; it was just what I needed after a memorable Yoga Workshop… to let the unique wisdom and inspiration received sink in and. . . flow. . .

Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town Feedback

As the Destinations Expo 2010 in Cape Town has closed its doors today, Sunday 22nd August 2010, we are looking forward to getting some feedback shortly directly from Monkey Valley Resort who had their presence at the 4-day Tourism & Holiday Expo… which will be published here.

Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town Feedback

Based on the Destinations Expo 2010 Cape Town Feedback we will analyze its value as a Tourism & Holiday Marketing tool and report on real tangible results or constructive criticism and thoughts as to how things could be dramatically improved within the global context – as Tourism and Travel are to be seen internationally -, and especially in view of the next year.

The fact that most bookings today are being made online puts the main focus on the Internet… and what is definitely required is a modern, high-tech and up-to-date Internet presence… which is totally lacking right now.

Time to change…

Destinations Expo 2010 Highlight

A Destinations Expo 2010 Highlight right when this Travel & Holiday Expo started was certainly Monkey Valley Resort, who came up with an appealing and modern Internet approach adapting to the fact that most bookings today are made online – and this on a global scale.

“In a couple of years” said Bill Gates a few years ago”… you will either have your business on the Internet or you have no business.” We’ve got to change and adapt… whether we like it or not…

Poem by Wayne Visser

You may have a sneak-preview on the YouTube movie  CLICK HERE – this is a website built on Semiomantics Evolution that will go online shortly, showing the interested visitor or traveller exactly what awaits him and making it easy to book. No time lost – but a feast for the eyes… be it for Accommodation, Thorfynn’s Restaurant, Events, Conferences, Weddings – you name it!

Destinations Expo 2010 on Google

It surprised me to actually not find a dedicated website for “Destinations Expo 2010″ – has the Internet Revolution jumped South Africa? Not that I want the whole world down here… and especially not at Monkey Valley Beach Resort, my favorite secret place… but South Africa has so much to offer and this is an event for new opportunities – national and abroad!

For this article, I wish to monitor the performance of my Semiomantics XO on Google Top 10 – after my article published a little earlier today – let’s have a look at the screenshot of Google Top 10 – meaning the first page of 184,000 search returns here: WOW! spot 6 with one little article! Destinations Expo Cape Town

Destinations Expo Cape Town

Today’s launch of the first travel and tourism exhibition, called “Destinations Expo 2010″ in Cape Town may well be the beginning of a future oriented development.

Local Expo – International Audience

The 2010 Expo is first of all a showcase of destinations, accommodation, traveling and holidays in South Africa and other nearby destinations.
Besides all the visitors attending the event, there are millions of people out there who are potentially interested in the topic and who are seeking to satisfy their desires via the Internet.

It is therefore surprising, that the Expo itself did not come up with a decent and well positioned website for and about the event.
Or are the organizers just the play-ball of some large tourism businesses privileging their best paying acolytes?
I don’t have the answer to this question; however, from what I can see, individual hotels, B&Bs, restaurants and lodges cannot individually count on the Expo 2010 to fetch new contacts through the Internet.
While the local crowd may enjoy the event, the remaining 6.5 billion potential customers are left out. This is not really a customer oriented policy, considering that nowadays most bookings are
made online.

Destinations 2010 Cape Town and the Internet

What do you need an Expo for if you cannot reach out for new customers or if the main markets cannot be reached?
If Destination 2010 is a low tech marketing idea, then it is the more important for businesses to brand themselves in a meaningful way online.
Smart examples can be seen at LalakoiPublishing.com and http://gardenroutedirectory.com.
Also some resorts are working on projects distributing highly visible media content, such as the Monkey Valley Resort near Cape Town.

Tourism and the Internet cannot be dissociated.

May be for next years Destinations Expo 2010 the organizers will invite some website developers who in the past have provided excellent services to South African Tourism, Lalakoi Publishing from the Garden Route or Bianca Gubalke Website Developments from Noordhoek, to name just two.

When marketing your Tourism or Travel Business on the Internet, what counts is that you are found where people are looking – in this case for what the Travel Expo 2010 in Cape Town is all about.

So let’s see where Monkey Valley Resort has positioned itself withing the Google Top 10 scenario – here’s the screenshot a few minutes after my previous post: a whopping number ONE position for Monkey Valley Resort as regards the Travel Expo 2010 in Cape Town, South Africa:

Meeting at Cape Point South Africa

When Florence Gotil (Cheng Cheng) from Mindanao in the Philippines and I met on the Internet highway a couple of years ago, after she had signed up with me on YORGOO, we wouldn’t have thought to be meeting at Cape Point, South Africa, one day.

Yet, exactly this happened today, Sunday 8th August 2010!

Meeting at Cape Point South Africa by Bianca Gubalke Images

After a week of blissful sunshine, this was the day it rained… the only day she and her family from the Philippines and other parts of the world would be here. And we had prayed for this rain as Nature really needed it; never have we seen our dam that empty at this time of the year.

Meeting at Cape Point South Africa

And then, while dark, errie clouds pulled over the rest of the Cape – the sun broke through the sky to bless our spontaneous meeting at Cape Point – not the most Southern tip of  South Africa, but also known as the “Cape of Storms” or the “Cape of Good Hope”. And stormy and cold it was… and after that… it’s just Antarctica. . .

Semiomantics Website Publishing

While we knew each other quite well in the virtual world, it was just wonderful to meet ‘live’, to hear about her flourishing truck and heavy equipment business, her future plans, her intention to market on a global scale using the Internet – for which of course Semiomantics Website Publishing is the answer to achieve the essential high Google rankings to start with.

Two women from different continents discussing real business at the end of the world over a plate of calamari fritti and hake…  while baboons that were as cheeky as they were acrobatic snatched bits from the plates the moment one didn’t keep an eye on them! Too funny. . . and certainly a lasting memory for Cheng Cheng and her family!

Cheng & Bianca at Cape-Point, South-Africa - by Bianca Gubalke

Meanwhile, her tour continues and we will communicate via the iPhone. May her journey be blessed and we have plans once she’s back home!
