Custom Book Cover Design is a vast term that encompasses everything to do with the creation, design and make-up of a book cover and then an attractive presentation thereof if done so on the Internet.

Every graphic artist – and primarily those specializing entirely on Custom Book Cover Design – have their own style and ideally publishing houses etc choose the style that goes with the topic or theme to cover.
Someone specializing in Childrens Books and the related cover designs is not necessarily the ideal fit for a sober or minimalistic scientific book, but one doesn’t always exclude the other. Powerpoint Presentations are a great way to create a digital photo album, photo book or photo gallery online.

The new Microsoft Office 2010 Beta offers terrific features and effects to change, manipulate and give digital images a more personal, artistic or compelling look while presenting it in an attractive and professional format. Ideally, sound or a narration are added, even video… however, in terms of mere presentations to showcase a product or a service or anything of educational or informational value one should never forget that a powerpoint presentation is a means to an end or rather a tool: nothing can replace the presenter, the voice, the personality behind it all. . . that’s what drives it, what gives it its soul and makes a presentation compelling, persuasive and memorable.
While good quality pictures always pull, the text should be minimal. Here as with everything in web design and artistic expression it’s about finding and developing one’s own style.
But before we get there, it’s important to familiarize ourselves with the various features and learn the techniques. Once we know what’s possible we can let our imagination flow and add to it what it needs to express what we want to say and how we want to say it.
Like anyone else when getting a new program, I have been playing and experimenting with the “Classic Photo Album” feature using digital pictures I took on Noordhoek beach over the past few months. In fact, this is the very first exercise I did and I am looking forward to doing some more using sound and music.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta
Working with Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta is real fun and brings professional results when edited and published correctly as I will show you in a moment.
Yesterday, I did a short PowerPoint presentation featuring “Wild Things” by Rob ‘n Roll as part of our dynamic Noordhoek Music Scene… and today I created a CD Cover for a “jewl case” but cannot deliver the completed product – as done in the past – as it seems the action script got a bug, so you just see the front cover with the spine… and at over 38 degrees Celsius in March !!! and on a holy Sunday I won’t dig deeper today, thank you very much!

Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta
I enjoyed creating Microsoft PowerPoint Presentations in the past… and our Ycademy members may remember the many educational slides and presentations I did for Ycademy as well as for some birthdays. So I was very curious to see the changes… and WOW! there’s a serious difference when even just looking at all the many features we now have with the brand-new Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta version – projected to hit the public market in June 2010.

What strikes us immediately with the new Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta version – besides much more sophisticated templates – is the wealth of graphic features, styles, fonts, colors, effects… I almost wanted to say “after effects”… and all sorts of elements and ways to manipulate and embellish a presentation and give it a professional clean and attractive look. It is truly amazing and a huge time saving especially for those who don’t have or are not familiar with Photoshop. As this is a Beta version, one can expect improvements with issues that are not that optimal yet – like getting the text alignments right fast and easy – but this is definitely a superb program to have.
Noordhoek Music Scene
A steaming night at the hot and buzzing Noordhoek Music Scene a few days ago was just right for me to take some digital photos to use for my first exercise with the new Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Beta version. You just never know who turns up… and here you see one of the best and most famous percussionists in the world – incognito. I didn’t even tell you :). You rarely see such steam, such passion and simply such great music… and as they were all about playing “Wild Things” I picked up that title. I hope my pictures convey the ambience – it was really ‘wild’! Wild at heart one could say… and simply world-class!
Good Picture Material for Presentations
Good picture material is still the most important element a great PowerPoint presentation consists of – so whoever has the passion to go deeper into this exciting arena needs to focus on that first.
I took the pictures under quite difficult conditions, however, with Photoshop everything is possible – if you have the eye, the skill and the patience. I say this because if one sees the many graphic features Microsoft offers now one could be tempted to think that Photoshop is no longer needed – however, there’s no way around sharp, good picture material – you produce it yourself or you buy it – unless you want to do text slides only, which is of course an option, but possibly a bit boring as… a picture tells a thousand stories and we are living in ‘picture times’!

It took quite a while to load my 5 slides only PowerPoint Presentation… so far without music or voice… just the slides. In the darkness and excitement I missed the video button on my camera and so it’s pictures only! i will get better!

Everybody needs top business cards – so why not turn to a graphic designer for a professional Business Cards Online Design that integrates perfectly with your existing Website or Blog?

When creating Business Cards Online the Design is tricky as what shows in a large format may almost disappear when reduced to the actual Business Card size.
In my design I used original Helvetica as a font which is perfect for printing and when we look at it 1:1, but not necessarily when reduced by the automatic picture resizer on a blog. So click on it to see the original which is perfectly readable in the normal small Business card size as well… even the fine line of words at the bottom that counts optically as a line but still has a clear meaning to it.

Here is the Bianca Gubalke Design Blog I designed in 2009. It inspired me to create the above Business Card where you see that besides using my usual color scheme… I picked some of the main elements – like the title header, the background and the portrait which have some recognition value and are part of my Branding.
Of course, I did various versions as I would for a customer, who then can make his choice according to his or her priorities and taste.

March Lilies Wallpaper
After the fiery sunset at the end of February in yesterday’s post on the Polaroid Look, I present you with the first March Lilies – Amaryllis belladonna – blooming in magnificent soft pinks in my garden and spreading a delicate scent.
Here I translated a digital photo into an attractive March Lilies Wallpaper using Photoshop and an Action Script:

Whether it’s March Lilies Wallpaper or any other product – what counts is always an ‘appetizing’ presentation, something that creates empathy and attracts peoples’ attention… and then guides them to the relevant action pointers.

If the production of Wallpapers were my main business and “March Lilies Wallpaper” one of my products, I would see to it that I publish regularly about this exact topic and grab Googles’ attention and space. Polaroid Look with Photoshop
Today, everything on the Internet is about Pictures, Images and Media. With the fantastic evolution in Digital Photography over the past years, almost everybody is in a position to take good, sharp pictures.
The question then is to take it a step further – in my example below I created a Polaroid Look with Photoshop.

You can either create a Polaroid Look with Photoshop by working your way through the steps – possibly following a Photoshop Tutorial – or you use an Action Script and then go wild using your imagination. Personally, I like a combination of both so I save time, get what I want and then manipulate it for a dramatic effect or whatever I want to convey.
Captivating Web Graphics
With a few mouseclicks and an eye for forms, proportions and colors one can create Captivating Web Graphics that reflect any mood or mission we wish to convey; here’s just another example right from my Studio in Noordhoek, Cape Town. . . waving a last goodbye to the sun who will now disappear behind Chapman’s Peak until November. . . when it will emerge again and bless us with those unique and dramatic sunsets that some may call ‘kitsch’ and many others – like me – just recognize the supreme beauty of Nature and be grateful for it:

Captivating Web Graphics can come in many interesting shapes and make-ups – so also in the nostalgic Polaroid Look -, but what will always be of prime importance is that the original picture material is of good quality; in most cases this will be some form of Digital Photography.
Sure, one can always manipulate and sharpen in Photoshop, however, the better the pictures are, the faster we can work. Besides, a good photo is just a fantastic way to inspire our creative muscles to take it further… we move forward instead of correcting the past … yoo, what a philosophic brain on an early Sunday morning before the second day of our…:

The Microsoft Ycademy Seminar (February 2010) is in full swing and while we focused on the general introduction on MS Office 2010 Beta and in particular on MS Word yesterday, today we will apply what we learned to our specific needs – Business Cards, Letterheads, Brochures, PowerPoint Presentations and much more – giving all these our individual visual touch, look… meaning building our Brand offline and online and thus spreading and consolidating our Knowledge, Skills and Services as provided by Web Design Consulting.

Book Covers for Kids Books
Book Covers for Kids Books are not only important for the children who read the book or look at the pictures while the stories are being read to them, but it’s what attracts the parents to consider this book in the first place. There was a happy time in my life when I focused entirely on children in my professional work: especially childrens books illustrations and movies for children.
There are always some pieces one is specifically attached to; this is the case with the illustration I included in this book cover here:
